Connecting over wifi with the xbox one doesn't seem to work, so they all need a wired connection to the router. As far as whether you need a physical copy or not, I'd say it probably shouldn't matter, but who knows. I'd definetly suggest giving the set up a dry run before your party just to make sure everything works. Good luck to ya :D
